Chocolate Self-Saucing Pudding

From The Australian Women’s Weekly Great Dessert Cookbook

  • 2 oz butter
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup self-raising flour
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa
  • ½ cup milk
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla essence
  • ½ cup sugar, extra
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa, extra
  • 1½ cups hot water

Cream butter with sugar and vanilla until light and fluffy. Add egg, beat well. Fold in sifted flour and cocoa alternately with milk.

Place mixture into greased ovenproof dish. Sift over combined extra sugar and cocoa. Pour hot water over very gently.

Bake in a moderate oven for 35 to 40 minutes.
